The Voice of Du Bois

The Voice of Du Bois
My passport they have revoked in order to choke hope by the throat.  They do not like the gravel upon which eye travel nor do they like the universe eye traverse.  They wish for me to divorce from my course only to stay and do what they say
They consider the study of Negro problems to be the jargon with which to cop a plea bargain, knowing that an Atlanta compromise would spell our demise.  The Negro in business is what they fear to hear and wish to cast about doubts by shouting it out.  The souls of black folk they wish to deny, knowing that our spirits persist to exist with which to strive to survive.  There will be no mystery in our victory
They’ve got it fixed where color and democracy don’t mix.  They make no amends in fencing us in.  They wish we had never gleaned or seen the brass ring and the quest of the silver fleece is one where we will have no gold to behold, all because they wish to hold blacks back.  They desire to throw us into dark water to be found drowned in hopes of muffling voices from the veil which when lifted will reveal the real deal about brothers of color
The talented tenth are but the tip of a black iceberg that they wish never to be seen or heard.  They think to blink in synch that it would be nice to just crack the ice, leaving us to drift in the abyss, thinking that such loose lips sink ships, leaving us no longer heaving and breathing.  Such a fear do they endear where when I take my stand for peace they blow up the floor with which to wage war
To them peace is dangerous so they look to strike a chord of discord in order to create disorder and the violence of riots which they rush to crush with which to mash us into the ashes of dust in disgust.  The efforts for social betterment have churned to turn out to be one of social belittlement where in no way do they want us to get equal pay, equal say and equal play with a fair and balanced chance to dance
My passport has been revoked but hope has not been choked by the throat, my mind travels and my work traverses the universe.  It’s a course from which eye have not divorced.  Wherever eye stay eye will not do what they say
